About this event

This online interactive workshop series is designed for parents and caregivers of children, with special needs, transitioning to kindergarten. Each session will include current information, presentations from expert guests speakers and opportunities to engage with other families and parent mentors.

The series includes:

-Monday: "Getting To Know Your Child" We will start with a short fun activity for your child to participate in (yes they can join us at this one!) Parents can hear tips and strategies from an Occupational Therapist to help prepare your child for school.(Tentative: A Family and Community Consultant form Autism & Behaioural Services will share information about the program).

-Tuesday: "Introducing Your Child to School" We will explore a variety of tools useful during the school meeting including how to share information about your child to identify programming goals, supports and strategies. TVCC's Kid's On the Block puppets will also be introduced.

-Wednesday: "Including Your Child at School and in the Community" We will hear about the kindergarten classroom and school processes from Janell Hurlbut, Special Education Learning Coordinator at TVDSB. We will also hear from a Recreational Therapist about inclusion and recreation.

-Thursday: "Advocating For Your Child" - We will learn effective strategies in working with your child's school that will also be helpful in navigating the school system, community supports and services. A TVCC Social Service Worker will share important information about suppports and service for families. We will also hear from TVCC Clinical Coordinator about the new changes to accessing school based therapy services.
